Snowflake Challenge 3: Fandom Wishlist

You know, I was trying to think of what kinds of things I like and would like recommendations or gifts of and, for a while, I couldn't think of anything.  I was a little stuck because I know I'm picky particular about things I like in terms of reading and art and such.  But then I thought, what if I expanded my ideas of what fandom-related things there are out there, and suddenly, I had ideas.

I am feeling very called to music and its intersection with fandom right now.  But also, since I basically live within the floating timeline of DC Comics, I'm also super interested in any canon recs for various parts of canon that maybe aren't or haven't been as well-known as others.

Recommendations Wishlist:
  • Soundtracks (movies, shows, comics, etc.);  I'm a big fan of, like, Prince's Batman album, or the Batman Forever soundtrack, or the musical It's A Bird It's A Plane It's Superman! for example
  • Concept albums/Story Songs (Thick as a Brick, The Wall, Tommy, etc.);  Love me some concept albums, things that tell a story over an entire record or song are so my jam
  • Unique comic events (miniseries, AU/Elseworlds, Imaginary Stories, etc.); Doesn't even have to be strictly DC Comics related, though that's always my first love; I've been getting very much into indie comics and experimental comics
  • Comic-inspired/media tie-in novels/novelizations (DC's Inheritance, Last Sons, Final Crisis, No Man's Land, etc.); I cannot get enough of comic stories in novel/prose form
  • Comic Histories/Philosophies/General Academic-type nonfiction (The Caped Crusade, Soul of the Dark Knight, Is Superman Circumcised?, etc.)

Honestly, I'm just in such a mood for odd and unique fandom things, anything would be super cool!

One soundtrack I listen to a lot is Atomic Blonde. I also listen to a lot of score-based soundtracks like Fury and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but I think that's a different vibe than you're looking for with a collection of songs.

I recently read and really enjoyed Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass by Mariko Tamaki (words) and Steve Pugh (art), which is a YA Punk AU of Harley's story, and had a great mix of nailing her voice, and shifting the plot into an effective Elseworld. Excellent Joker, too.

this is not batman related but... have you read the novel green lantern: hero's quest? it was the first comics-based novel i ever read and it's still a favorite to this day. in fact, i need to buy a second copy because i read my first so many times that some of the pages have fallen out 😬

also re: unique comic events, idk if this counts but i will always rec oracle: year one from the batman chronicles #5 when someone asks me about batfam recs of any kind.

For music recs, there's Joe Jackson's "Heaven & Hell" album; each track is a take on one of the seven deadly sins. Also, Greg Brown's "Songs of Innocence and of Experience," where he sets the William Blake poems to music. And one of my favorite albums, "The Black Rider" by Tom Waits, cowritten by William S Burroughs, an updated telling of the German folktale "Der Freischütz" (hunter buys magic bullets from the devil at the crossroads to impress his fiance, this turns out to be a bad idea).

(....This music rec list turned out more fire-and-brimstone than I intended, whoops -_-;)

I don't have any new comic book novels to rec, but I wanted to give a shout-out since I saw you mention Inheritance, which is my absolute favorite superhero book. \o/
