2021 Snowflake Challenge 5: Is This The 1812 Overture? Because HERE COME THE CANONS

Batman/DC:
I love the Batfamily.  Unfortunately, DC does not seem to share my love.  Although I'm still buying the comics, I've basically stopped paying attention to anything happening in real canon that I don't like, because that's pretty much everything.  I'm still in love with the worlds from the Golden Age through the Bronze Age (although, of course, I ignore anything that I don't care for there, too) and, aside from technology, basically set my fics around those personalities.

DC is my one fandom that I can basically do anything with because it's sure as Shinola that the real writers do.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters:
Ugh, I love YGO!DM.  I love writing fics for this and I have so many ideas that I've never done because I'm usually so involved with Batfamily stuff.  I'm going to try and write some more Kaiba/Jounouchi (my OTP for this canon) fics this year, maybe do another 50 days of fics or something.

Foyle's War:
I have the DVDs of this, but I haven't watched them in a while.  I still want Rex to live and be happy with Andrew, but I need to watch the show again.  But also, ugh, I love Foyle, he's such a father and a good person.

Mystery Science Theater 3000:
Mike is the best host and no I won't take criticism on this my favorite.  I've seen almost every episode of his numerous times (except for Alien From L.A. and High School Big Shot because 1) I really can't stand her voice, and, 2) it's so fucking depressing; like the Coleman Francis movies aren't even that depressing) and I just love Mike so much as a host.  I wrote one fic for MST3K, but I'm hoping to write some more maybe this year.

Sherlock Holmes:
ACD--I love classic Holmes because that's what I grew up on.  Last year, I started rereading the entire series and I was overwhelmed by the queerness of it all (purely unintentional, of course, but it's so amazing, they're just both so smitten with each other) between Holmes and Watson.  I love beyond belief writing trans man Sherlock and that's the thing that's kept me going through these difficult times, even if I've only posted a bit of it.
Horowitz--I love the way Moriarty is written (my poor Athelney) and I love writing for them.  I actually did read the Horowitz books in order (with the exception of the Kindle book because I didn't know about it at the time), and while House of Silk is still so good, Moriarty just has my heart.  I reread it last year and I think I might do it some more, because I have started a big fic for it that petered out because of Life, but I'm going to try to get back at it this year, at least one chapter more.

Well, I'm autistic and trans, and, afaik, nobody in my immediate RL circle of friends is.  I speak and sometimes think in French, but I'm having a ridiculously hard time with Spanish.

2 Was there a toy you really wanted as a child, but never got?

Typically, I got the toys I wanted, even if it wasn’t right away.  I was taught from an early age that commercials were only trying to sell you things and were generally lying, so I never really went that into toys, unless they were really special.

3 What hobby or activity would you do more if the internet and TV went down for a month?

Cry, probably.  It’s not that I couldn’t handle it, but that’s where all my friends are.  Assuming I could still checkin on them, I guess I’d just read and write more.

4 Are you a Baby Boomer, Generation Jones, Gen X, Millennial, or younger? What’s a generalization people make about your generation cohort that’s all wrong?

I’m a millennial, going on 30.  I think the biggest generalization is that we’re all teens/college students who don’t understand the world and have never had significant trauma in our lives.  Like, bruh.

5 Would you rather be the main character in a fantasy story, a sci-fi story, or a horror story?

Honestly, probably sci-fi, but nothing dystopian.  I like fantasy, but what I’d love is a cross between fantasy and sci-fi.  I don’t like the typical “ancient/old England” tropes, but I love dragons.   I’m chronically ill, so I’d rather have the helpful tech, but nothing that seems destructive.

6 Did you choose your current profession/job or somehow just end up in it?

Basically I fell into it when my other job laid me off, but it’s goid, because temping gives a lot of varied experience.

 

7 Whether you grew up any sort of religious or not, do you, now on an adult level, still share the same faith or lack of one/attend the same church or denomination/practice the same spiritual system that you had growing up?

I wasn’t raised as anything as a kid, but I have gone through lots of religious phases.  I started with Wicca, but the emphasis on sex bugged me (turns out I’m asexual) and the focus on the Divine Feminine also displeased me (turns out I’m trans).  The I went for Hellentistic Polytheism, but again, too much focus on strong gender roles (as if gods have use for such things).  I have a bit of a pash for Catholic trimmings and trappings, but too much historical knowledge to take Christianity as fact.  I rather like Santa Muerte, but I’m more in my own mix of things now.  Death is truly the ultimate and I have a thing for Death as a mothering figure (she takes all her children in the end, good or bad or neither).  So, I have an altar I’m going to put up with Hestia (goddess of the hearth and home), Demeter (powerful goddess of seasons and harvest), La Virgen de Guadalupe, and Santa Muerte.

8 If money, time, and energy were no object, what university degree would you go back and get, just for fun?

Honestly, I really want to go back for linguistics and study that, bit I’m worried I’ll never have the time or money again to really devote myself.  But that’s what I’d do.  If the above was true for any amount for a degree, I’d become a forensic pathologist.  I’ve always been fascinated with death and we really need for FPs to cut down on our backlog of autopsies.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is my all time favorite.  I don’t usually read series, because I get tired of characters easily.

Oh, I guess the Mike Bowditch series by Paul Doiron and the Nils Shapiro series by Matt Goldman.  I have a thing for decent guys who solve crimes.

I actually don't know anyone personally, but I know people ship it.

What would be your ideal scenario for 3 (Moriarty/Athelney Jones)?
Athelney alive. *sobs*  That's all that I want.  Ideally, Moriarty would hang around as Chase and do their little consulting detective business for a time.  There would be no truly happy ending for my boys, but at least they'd both still be alive.

Ugh, what isn't my favorite moment?  Anything with the two of them happy together, really.  As Batman and Robin, Batman and Nightwing, Bruce and Dick, anything.  They're like, the universal constant.

Since I was a wee shipper as a child.

What's the story with 8 (Dick/Tim)? What made you stop liking/caring?
Well, I don't really have any strong feelings about the ship, is the thing.  I've written it, but I don't really see it myself.

Bruce/Barbara, for sure.  DC Bruce Timm has some big thing where they really want to ship her with him, but they keep aging her down and that's :////

Don't make me choose.  I guess Kaiba/Jounouchi, because I love their antagonistic push-and-pull.

Why did you stop liking 7 (Dick/Barbara)?
When DC decided it was endgame for both of them, despite the fact that it never fucking works.  They're best as exes who happen to be great friends.  And like, that's not a bad thing.

Not really?  I just don't really ship them anymore.

Rough Boys by Pete Townshend.  Ugh, my heart.

Sherlock/Watson and Moriarty as Chase/Athelney Jones.  Like, could you imagine?  The whole time, Sherlock and Moriarty are mentally and verbally sparring, seeing who's going to call the other out first.  Athelney would be starstruck by Sherlock.  Watson would be embarrassed by all three of them.

They're both so canon.  I guess Sherlock/Watson, because I'm afraid of how DC would screw up Bruce/Selina.

I've been in and out of the Batfandom for years, since I was a kid, really.

Honestly, probably Holmes/Watson.  I was obsessed with Sherlock Holmes as a kid, and my favorite movie at the time was Without a Clue.

8 - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series
Animated/anime, I guess?  I don't do very much shipping from fandoms with real people in them.

9 - Has the internet caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why
Bro, I took one look at the Star Wars fandom and noped the hell out of there.  But for a while, I fell out of the Batfandom because it got really hostile.

Actually, Batfandom.  I found it all over again when I joined Tumblr in 2012/13.

11 - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom
I try not to interact with people in the Batfandom, because it's either young people arguing that Batman/Robin is pedophilia, or sanctimonious older fans picking on younger fans.  I'm too old for all that shit.

I don't know that I've abandoned any ships.  I had done for Bruce/Dick for a time because of Tumblr drama and bullshit, but I came back.

I honestly thought nobody else shipped Moriarty/Athelney Jones until I found two (2) fics for them.

I don't even know.  Um...trans Kaiba makes the most sense, because what trans guy do you know who hasn't wanted to create an elaborate death-based theme park to destroy his enemies?  I mean, I know I have, hahaha...ha.....

It was a CardCaptor Sakura fic with Touya and Yuki where Yuki wakes up at 3am wanting pancakes.  Every now and then, it still gets notes, lmao.
